Soda blasting in brief
Soda blasting was developed when the Statue of Liberty needed cleaning. Engineers there decided that they needed a system that would not damage the soft copper plate of the statue and also would have a minimal effect on the surrounding environment. Due to the unique manner in which soda blasting works, it is possible to remove paint, dirt, corrosion and other contaminants from almost any surface without damaging the underlying substrate. An operator can gently and effectively remove paint and dirt, layer by layer, by simply adjusting the air pressure and air/media mixture.
Environmentally friendly
Soda blasting removes contaminants from a surface by the energy released when the soda crystals explode upon impact and spread the energy across the surface. This means that soda has a non abrasive action and will not wear the surface away, as a result of this, soda is far more flexible as a blast media and can be used in areas where other media, such a sand and shot, would damage the underlying surface. Soda blasting does not require water and therefore is suitable also for use in areas where water would cause damage and also in minus temperatures.
Safe
Soda blasting will not create sparks and does not generate heat as other systems often do, meaning that items can be blasted in potentially hazardous areas such as fuel stations etc. This also means the soda blasting will not warp or distort even very thin metal panels.
Being water soluble AND environmentally friendly means that clean up is minimal and wont leave you with hours of collecting, filtering and cleaning to do. Also, very rarely will masking up or taping be required thus drastically reducing preparation times.
